Alvo Looks To Be PSVR, Rift And Vive’s Counter-Strike

Watch the trailer for Alvo, the new VR first-person shooter (FPS) from Quiz Night Tonight developer Mardonpol, and it’s not difficult to get a sense of where the studio is going with its new project.
Alvo looks like it wants to be VR’s very own Counter-Strike; a close-quarters military combat game that captures the intensity of modern warfare for headsets. We’ve seen Mardonpol tease the game a few times over the past few months, but today the team is going wide with this trailer and the first details of the game.

If you’ve been following the studio’s teases over the past few months you’ll know Mardonpol is on its way to PlayStation VR (PSVR) with support for the Aim Controller. That’s a very good thing but, better yet, it’s also coming to the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and will allow for full cross-platform multiplayer support across all three headsets. Hopefully, that will make this one of the rare VR games where multiplayer lobbies aren’t empty most of the time.
For now, Mardonpol is confirming that game will release in 2018 with three modes. Search and Destroy will have two teams of five players squaring off as one tries to plant a bomb in the other’s base. Free 4 All is a self-explanatory deathmatch, while Domination will see players capturing control spots and trying to hold them.
“We’re hoping Alvo caters to all types of players,” Mardonpol said in a statement to UploadVR. “We have game modes that are suited for the Counter-Strike/Rainbow Six: Siege type gamers who want slow tactical team based gameplay. We also have game modes for Call of Duty type gamers who want more of a lone wolf run and gun type mode.
“We’re just hoping to deliver a satisfying online FPS, especially to the PSVR community that lacks one at the moment.”
And with that, we wish Mardonpol every success.
