After adding augmented reality (AR) support to mobile title CSR Racing 2 for iOS last year, developer Zynga has now announced the introduction of the feature to Android devices thanks to ARCore.
Just like the iOS version, Android players will be experience an interactive AR world which brings to life virtual super cars from iconic auto manufacturers, such as Lamborghini, Ferrari and Porsche, within real-world environments.
The AR Mode enables players to explore every aspect of the available cars, from opening the doors, bonnet and boot; to experimenting with spoiler options; inspecting the engine and stepping inside the computer generated vehicle. Additional options include scaling the cars from life-size to model scale, as well as adding layer reflections by applying a selection of reflection cubemaps for an authentic and realistic look.
“CSR2 Android players have been craving this kind of in-game interaction with the supercars they love, and we’re delighted to give them the ability to virtually bring their dream car collection off the mobile screen and into their driveways,” said Julian Widdows, Vice President of CSR2 in a statement. “With the help of Google’s ARCore technology, we’re now able to satisfy the very real desire of CSR2 fans to have their favorite supercars like the BMW M2 Competition, Porsche 911 or Lamborghini Huracan sitting in their driveway.”
CSR Racing 2 with the new AR Mode is currently available to download for free on the Google Play Store, supported by the following devices: Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Google Pixel 2, Google Pixel 2 XL, Asus Zenfone AR, Asus Zenfone Ares, Huawei P20, Moto Z2 ForceOnePlus 5, Samsung Galaxy Note8, Samsung Galaxy S8+, Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Last week saw a major update rolled out for ARCore by Google, adding several new enhancements to the software since its official launch in February. New features include shared AR experiences, Vertical Plane Detection which means you can place AR objects on more surfaces and Cloud anchors. As further AR updates are released, VRFocus will keep you informed.
