TPCAST has begun rolling out its wireless solutions for virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs) but it is not stopping there. Today, the Chinese company has revealed its going to be releasing several upgrades to the hardware which it calls TPCAST Plus.
TPCAST Plus is in fact a whole product family that the company has been working on, which includes adapter hardware and software upgrades, an integrated head plate and 4-in-1 battery charger. All the upgrades have been based off customer feedback, with TPCAST detailing that the new adapters for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets will fully support microphone capabilities, whilst increasing stability for an improved user experience. Additionally, the new wireless plus adapter supports automatic restart, wireless interference reduction, and automatic wireless channel detection that substantially improves the stability of the Wireless VR connectivity.
“The launch of the TPCAST Plus Adapter positions TPCAST as the leader in the Wireless VR Market. The consolidation of the adapter components into one Wireless VR unit allows a fully immersive user experience,” said Michael Liu, CEO of TPCAST in a statement. “We expect that this upgraded product family will lead to a rapid increase of VR content that takes advantage of Wireless Virtual Reality experiences, thus bringing more consumer and enterprise customers into the wireless VR market.”
TPCAST will be showcasing the TPCAST Plus integrated system at CES 2018. Attendees will be able see the new design that includes a built-in backplane with a small battery incorporating all the wireless adapter components into one piece of hardware residing on top of the headset, creating a wireless solution with no extra cables. Furthermore, this system supports hot-swap battery, coupled with the newly launched 4-cell battery charging cradle.
While the current TPCAST products are now shipping in China, North America, and Europe, the expected release date for the TPCAST Plus is in the first half of 2018. No prices have yet been revealed for the new upgrades. When that happens VRFocus will bring you the latest details.
