New York Lottery Brings AR into the Game

The New York Lottery is bringing augmented reality (AR) into it lottery game with the new ‘Champions of Cash’ instant game which lets players play Basketball or Baseball for prizes.

A $2 (USD) lottery ticket can be used in conjunction with the NY Lottery free mobile app by simply scratching the ticket to reveal the special AR barcode which can be scanned into the smartphone to present the user with the option of playing two sports – Baseball or Basketball.
In the basketball game, a 3D basketball court will appear on the smartphone, the player then manoeuvres their player across the court and taps the screen to shoot and see if they win. In the baseball game, players are pitched three balls, which they can hit to reveal if they have won any of the prizes that are on offer.

There will also be a leaderboard available within the app, where non-monetary prizes are available for those who can make it to the top of the board. Users of the app can also share news of their winnings on social media.
“The New York Lottery’s Champions of Cash game is the ultimate invitation to play,” said Gweneth Dean, Director of the Division of the New York Lottery. “The chance to win thousands of dollars through next-level 3-D virtual reality and exciting sports action gives our players unique experiences they can’t get anywhere else in the country. We are proud of this effort that redefines the traditional scratch-off ticket.”
For those who don’t have access to the AR functions, the lottery tickets can still be played through traditional scratch-off panels. The results remain the same whether the AR or scratch panel is used.
VRFocus will continue to bring you news of the latest innovations in AR and virtual reality (VR).
