E3 2018: ‘Elder Scrolls: Blades’ Heading To VR With Cross-Platform Play

Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls: Blades mobile experience will support everything from iPhone to Oculus.

Bethesda pulled zero punches at this years annual Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, California. The AAA game studio dropped a treasure trove of spine-tingling reveals and announcements, from exciting new information regarding their mysterious Cyberpunk 2077 project, to the announcement of two new Elder Scrolls adventures – one of which has been confirmed to support mobile & high-end VR headsets.

Available for pre registration now , Elder Scrolls: Blades is an upcoming mobile experience based within the lush, complex Elder Scrolls universe. Unlike other smartphone adaptation, Bethesda promises a full Elder Scrolls experience with exciting combat, procedurally-generated dungeons, town-building mechanics, even cross-platform play between phones, consoles, computers, and whatever else the app is capable of running on.

During the live presentation that took place yesterday evening, Bethesda EP Todd Howard expressed the companies interest in bringing Blades to every conceivable platform for the ultimate cross-platform experience. This includes both mobile and high-end, PC-based VR as well. Seeing as Blades is inherited a mobile experience, Howard promises support for VR users whether its on an iPhone or a Vive, with cross-platform functionality between headsets and conventional gaming devices.

It seems as though Bethesda has not only embraced the memes highlighting the company’s “goal” of re releasing Elder Scrolls: Skyrim to every conceivable electronic device on the market, but taken a few notes on it as well. The idea of delivering Elder Scrolls: Blades to every console, phone and headset with cross-platform support may seem insane, but it also could be the start of one of entertainment’s most accessible video game ecosystems.

Elder Scrolls: Blades will be available for free later this year, although you can sign up for Early Access now until June 15th here.
