PC manufacturer Dell and its videogame-focussed subsidiary Alienware have shown a willingness towards becoming a one-stop-shop for users wanting to get into virtual reality (VR). The company seems set to continue this commitment with the announcement of its new line of VR-ready gaming laptops.
Dell has become one of the vanishingly few hardware manufacturers to offer a way to buy both VR-capable PC and a HMD in the same online store. At CES 2018 the company announced it would be offering the HTC Vive Pro in its store, along with word of a new VR-ready desktop PC. The gaming laptop line is also now getting a refresh.
Six new Windows 10 gaming laptops have been announced, all of which are based on the new 8th Gen Intel Core processors. The budget G Series of gaming laptops will be priced from $749 (USD) and will offer high performance for gamers on a budget.
For those looking for a higher-end experience, Alienware are launching the 16 and 17 gaming laptops. These are available with 8th Gn Intel Core i5, i7 or i9 processors, sporting up to six cores and allowing overclocking up to 5.0GHz. This line of laptops will come equipped with Alienware Cryo-Tech v2.0, with thinner fan blades and a special vapour chamber to keep the equipment as cool as possible.
“We are ambassadors to the PC gaming world,” says Frank Azor, vice president and general manager, Alienware and Dell Gaming. “From pushing the boundaries of innovation in our Alienware line and creating systems for today’s top competitive gamers and leagues, to our new affordable G Series line-up, we’re enabling gamers of all levels to game at their best.”
The Dell G3 15 and 17 laptops are powered by Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, but can be upgraded up to 1060 Max-Q and up to Intel Core i7 processors. For higher performance, the G5 and G7 are available, which come with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPUs as standard, along with 6GB of RAM and dual drives with SSD options.
Further details can be found on the Dell website. The HTC Vive Pro will be available from the Dell website in the USA from the 5th April, 2018. For future updates on new VR-capable PCs keep checking back with VRFocus.
